Welcome to Curlew Class, our Year 6 class.
Miss Gibson-Harrison is the temporary Year 6 teacher with support from Mrs Clarke. We both work extremely hard to create an energetic, engaging and enjoyable learning environment. We hope that your child will take great pleasure from their time in our class as they experience interesting and exciting lessons. We aim to meet the needs of all individuals and are committed to adapting pace, content and resources in order to support everyone. If you have any questions about anything we do in school, please don't hesitate to see one of us at the door or make an appointment to see Mr Anderson via the school office.
The Year 6 classroom door will be open for children to arrive each morning from 8:35am until 8:50am. Any child arriving after this time will need to sign in at the school office as the register will have closed. School dinner requests are recorded alongside the attendance register.
On arrival, children are expected to put their belongings away tidily and begin their Early Morning Activity promptly which will be detailed on the whiteboard.
Children can be collected from 3:15pm at the classroom door, unless written permission has been given to the school for the child to walk home alone.
Children will need to have their P.E. kit in school every day.
Reading - Children are expected to read at least four times per week and this should be recorded in their reading record.
Spelling - Children are given a weekly spelling word list. There is a weekly spelling test - this is usually on a Friday.
Weekly homework, which follows on from what has been taught in class, is provided on a Monday and collected on the following Friday.
Maths - Children should practise their times tables at least four times per week. This could be in any form - verbal, written or on a computer program.
Topic - There are termly topic projects for your child to complete which can be read in the topic leaflet - available from the website and given to your child at the start of each new term.
Children need to bring their reading record, reading books and spelling book to school every day. These will be used in class and are regularly monitored.
