Year 6 Summer Term 1

Hello and welcome back after a lovely sunny Easter break.
In Year 6 this half term, we will be focusing on SATs revision.  We will be doing daily Maths and arithmetic every morning alongside small group problem solving sessions in the afternoons.  These sessions will focus on supporting the children to further develop their grasp of the key arithmetic concepts required for the SATs exams- as well as enhancing their application of these skills to use in tackling SATs style problem solving questions.
We will also be doing daily English sessions.  These will concentrate on deepening the children's grammatical understanding and spelling knowledge as well as extensive reading comprehension sessions aimed at fostering the children's retrieval and inference skills in a variety of texts.
On top of this we will also be celebrating 'May Day' as a whole school and the Year 6 pupils are privileged to have the opportunity to dance inside the school 'Oss' for the first time.
Following the completion of the SATs exams, we will be starting a new and exciting topic on Isambard Kingdom Brunel and the Industrial Revolution (in preparation for our Bristol residential taking place in July).  This topic will run alongside our end of Year 6 activities and Secondary School transition programme.
