GEOGRAPHY

Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future.

Michael Palin.

Geography

We aim for a high-quality Geography curriculum, fulfilling the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography; providing a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum; ensuring the progressive development of geographical concepts, knowledge and skills; and for the children to develop a love for geography.

In order to achieve this, we will be using the Cornerstones Curriculum 2022, to give the children a real sense of curiosity about the world and the people who live here. Our teaching equips pupils with knowledge about places and people; resources in the environment; physical and human processes; formation and use of landscapes. We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about their local area of Padstow so they can develop a real sense of who they are, their heritage and what makes their local area unique and special.

We aim for the children to develop geographical skills: collecting and analysing data; using maps, globes, aerial photographs and digital mapping to name and identify countries, continents and oceans; and to communicate information in a variety of ways. We want the children to develop a fluency in geographical enquiry and the ability to apply questioning skills, as well as effective presentation techniques. We want children to enjoy and love learning about geography by gaining this knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits.

INTENT

To build a curriculum that is designed to develop children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
